On completion of your stone floor installation, we recommend that it be immediately sealed and then resealed, at a minimum, every 5 years for indoor tiles and every 2 years for outdoor tiles. Here's why:
Natural stone tiles are porous, meaning that they can soak up water, grease and stains. Sealer acts as a protective barrier and helps repel stains
Sealer wears down after time leaving your stone vulnerable to staining and scratching from any abrasive action such as sand on the bottom of your shoes
Your floors will be easier to clean as the surface will be smoother and liquids will be less likely to penetrate the stone
You can opt for a colour-intensifier sealer which will give your stone a richer colour and give your floors and space a fresh new look
Periodic resealing of your tiles will ensure the stone maintains its natural characteristics and will keep your floors looking their best for longer.
Note that the floor needs to be professionally cleaned prior to resealing. Call Opiela Tiling for a free assessment of your stone and check out our sealing and restoration services.
